Sky images taken with the EOS 40 and from April 2012 EOS 7On 2012 July 22 I saw Venus, Jupiter and Aldebaran in early morining so I took a shot of 1.5 second throught the window. The total lunar eclipse of 2011 Dec 10 was only partially visible at moonrise. I took some pictures every minute one at 16:00 UTC. The biggest problem I have to cope with in Holland are the orange skies, as the Netherlands is the country with the most illuminated sky of the world. The orange glow is due to the sodium lamps used for street lighting, but, even worse, upward lighting for lighting buildings of which more light does not reach the building at all.All images are shot in RAW (5184x3456) or sRAW (2592x1728) on the EOS 7 and processed by Photoshop CS4 and CS5 and the stacked ones by the freeware Deep sky stacker before using photoshop. Some images have a reddish center which is due to the vignetting caused by full aperture. I was unable to remove this by photoshop, even by vignetting correction. In the past (1988-1997) I also did a lot with astrophotos, for picures see here.
On 2013 March 13/14 I saw the comet PANSTARRS and a nice crescent Moon in the evening sky. I used the Canon 70-300mm f/5.6L telephoto zoom lens which is excellent for such photos. |

Older pictures taken in 2008-2009The first five pictures are teken on the night of Christmas day 2008 when it was very clear and I took some pictures of the sky in the east which was relatively dark. I had no telescope with me, just the camera and tripod, so I was bound to untracked expossures which limits exposure times to 8 sec with the Canon EF 85mm 1.8. The location (the cross in the center of the map) I took the images was at the edge of the city of Nijmegen (Netherlands). The rest is taken in September and August 2008 from a more illuminated location. See here for some high ISO samples in general photography.
